Beauty Tips – Skin Care Products and Treatments – Central Valley Dermatology Dermatologist recommended skin care products for beauty and anti-aging Thu, 19 Apr 2018 22:27:25 +0000 en-US hourly 1 Let’s talk about facial color….. Fri, 20 May 2016 17:36:07 +0000 iStock_000025401477_XXXLarge

Now, faithful readers, let’s discuss the color of your (and my) face.

90% of the hyperpigmentation on your face is a result of exposure to the sun.  Sunbathing is obviously a great factor in facial discoloration. But just being out in the daylight results in environmental damage.  And a great deal of this damage occurs while you are either driving or being a passenger in your car.

It doesn’t matter if you are white, brown, black or green. The color of your derriere is the color your face is meant to be.

If these two colors do not remotely appear to be the same, do not despair dear readers. Your dermatologist can help you return to true form.

And remember always…..sunblock is your friend.

WHO IS INJECTING YOU? Mon, 29 Feb 2016 22:35:05 +0000 Woman getting botox treatment at medical spa.

Dear Faithful Followers,

Have you given the above much thought….Of course not…. Why would you? Most of us assume a well trained person is performing the injections.

Lets us at CVD enlighten you. Dermatology is the study of diseases of the skin, hair and nails. Your skin is the largest organ in your body. To become a dermatologist, one has to complete the following:

4 years of college;

4 years of medical school;

1 year internship;

3 years dermatology residency.

After dermatology residency, most dermatologists endure rigorous testing to become Board Certified. Why not have a skin specialist perform your cosmetic injections.  So faithful readers the next time you visit your physician for cosmetic injections, be sure to check his/her credentials. It makes good sense.

EYEBROWS ARE A BIG DEAL! Tue, 16 Feb 2016 19:18:58 +0000

Beautician plucking a beautiful man eyebrows with tweezers in a beauty salon

People often ask us at CVD what we notice first on our clients’ faces.

For myself, faithful readers, it is the eyebrows. Unibrows, raggedy brows, too long brows, scraggly brows, ect., make me want to whip out the wax and tweezers and make the world right again.

Eyebrows should frame your eye. They should not be the center of attention. Well groomed brows with a nice arch add to the beauty of your eyes.

Forget the Marlene Dietrich look!  To our young, beginning tweezers, i say DO NOT OVER TWEEZE! If you continue to tweeze to the nth degree, your brows may nit grow back. Ask your mother, your aunts your grandmothers about this phenomenon. The look you love at 15 you may not want at 25.

One last bit of advice. Go to a professional the first time you have your brows groomed. Of course, we at CVD do phenomenal eyebrow arches. But, if you aren’t fortunate enough to avail yourself of our services, visit salons that offer this service. Check out the clients who have just had their brows groomed. You may find the perfect salon for you.

and remember…. EYEBROWS ARE A BIG DEAL!!!

Some Facts About Botox! Mon, 30 Nov 2015 22:24:33 +0000 IMG_0263

Botox therapy is the most widely performed cosmetic procedure in America today. After a certain age, most faces benefit from a little editing.  Those horizontal and vertical lines on the forehead as well as crow’s feet around the eyes often appear to make us look angry or irritated when we are not.

Botox, a muscle relaxant, is injected into those areas to eliminate or diminish the lines and wrinkles.  The procedure lasts approximately ten minutes from beginning to end and is relatively painless.

There are few ways to extend the effects of Botox significantly. Try applying products such as SkinMedica TNS Essential Serum , Regenica Growth Factor or Zo Ossential Growth Factor Serum Plus. These products are composed of peptides, vitamins and a host of other other anti-aging products, which can benefit Botox tremendously.

Freshness of the product and expertise of the physician are important factors when choosing a dermatologist to provide this service. Dr. Prescott has over 15 years experience with Botox therapy. Our aim at Central Valley Dermatology is to give you a refreshed, relaxed look.

For further information on Botox or other skin care procedures, feel free to call us at (209) 477-7546.

Contouring done right Tue, 24 Jun 2014 20:42:40 +0000 What’s new and trending for 2015…. contouring and shading the face!

Contouring can enhance or reduce any feature on your face. Done correctly, contouring can bring out your eyes and cheekbone area as well as elongate or shrink the size of your nose. It can also take the edge off a thick chin.

Check out those ultra skinny, probably totally anorexic, models today. They would be jobless without concealer, shading powder and foundation three inches thick on their faces. Of course, we are not advocating you apply quite that much of the above.

CVDerm Tip - Using concealer to contourHere are a couple of tips, though, that will help you when applying a cream concealer.

  • First of all, get a good shading brush to apply the concealer.
  • Secondly, after making sure your hand is free of perfume and lotions or potions, apply a small amount of concealer to the back of your hand. From there, apply it to your face.
  • To avoid the cakey look on your face, use a rolling motion to apply the concealer.

Always remember we want make-up (including contouring) to enhance our assets and let our natural beauty shine though.

Again, as we say here at CVD… beauties are made not necessarily born.

Makeup minimums for a polished look Wed, 14 May 2014 22:32:23 +0000 Beauties are made… not born… particularly after a certain age. Rarely will you ever see a photo of a celebrity – male or female – that has not been photo shopped. This photo shopping has made so many of our ladies lament over areas of their face and body they do not think measure up to the ridiculous, unrealistic standards perpetuated knowingly or unknowingly by today’s celebrities.

simple-makeup-basicsI know of no female over the age of 30 who can wake up, shower, brush her teeth,  and walk out the door to work…and still look professional and presentable.  A touch of makeup is a must!!  We are not talking pancake foundation and three shades of eye shadow, etc.  We are talking a few simple, timeless classics:

  • day time eyeliner
  • a touch of shadow
  • powder
  • tweezed eyebrows
  • a suitable shade of lipstick

Of course there are a few things you must not have:

  • no hairy upper lip or chin
  • an UN-suitable shade of lipstick – no iridescent glow-in-the-night shade of pink or orange or purple or black
  • no lip line drawn outside the lips to make those lips look larger (that is the equivalent of the comb-over on men)
